Biography

Rising from the ashes of The Decanters, Whippoorwill took flight in 2004. Frontwoman Nicole Evans Groth and keyboardist/trumpeter/saw player Mikey Kapinus joined forces with Jason Evans Groth on guitar and vocals, Alex Mann on bass and Jonathan Cargill on drums. Jason and Mikey also played together in Magnolia Electric Co., and everyone except Jason was a member of the popular Prince cover band, Erotic City. Jason was also in The Coke Dares and The Impossible Shapes. After a couple of years, the band realized the only thing missing from their sweet sound was some face-meltin' dual-lead guitar harmonies, so they recruited Chris Welz on guitar (who had also been in Erotic City as well as Frank Lloyd Wrong).

Now the 6-piece hums along like a '69 Corvette with the windows rolled down, blasting Loretta Lynn and Lee Hazelwood, with a little T. Rex, Neil Young & Willie Nelson thrown in for good measure. Banjos and harmonies, rock with a little country, beautiful female vocals with a little growl, growling male vocals with a bit of beauty... It should make anyone listening want to pour him or herself a generous dram of whiskey and sit back to sip in both the spirits and the songs.
